5 Ways to Organize Back to School (the newbie mom’s guide)
Back to school is an exciting time for kids and parents alike. But if you’re like me, it can also be overwhelming.
I’m a newbie mom who never had to worry about getting supplies together for back-to-school when I was younger, so organizing has been a process of trial and error.
Thankfully, some things have worked well for us over the years! Here’s what we’ve done:
1. Create a Shared Calendar
The first thing you should do is create a shared calendar. Anywhere you have space to write down your and your children’s activities will work! You can use an app or a wall calendar or put it on the fridge.
Next, please make sure you know where things are and when they’re due by creating a list of school supplies and making sure it’s available for all family members to see.

2. Have a Family Meeting
If your kids are old enough to be expected to help with the school year, it will be helpful for them to know what their responsibilities are. The same goes for you!
Holding a family meeting is an excellent way to ensure everyone knows their expectations.
You can also use this time as an opportunity to talk about any changes that will happen in your homeschooling setup or routine.

3. Create a Homework Center
When you have a homework center, you can keep all your supplies in one place. It is essential when you have multiple kids who could each be taking different classes.
You’ll need:
- A folder to hold their work and keep it organized
- A calendar where they will write down their assignments, due dates, and other important dates like field trips or family vacations
- A book that has space for notes on what they learned in class (or if there are any questions) so that parents can see how well the kids retained information from the day before at home
If your kids need a pencil or pen, ensure they have their pencil case so they don’t lose them!
4. Invest In Some Good Bags And Backpacks
- Make sure the bag is big enough to carry all the supplies.
- Make sure the bag is comfortable to hold.
- Make sure the bag is durable.
- Make sure it’s washable so you can clean it after they throw up on it, or get slime spilled inside, or worse!
- Don’t forget about backpacks! These are great for kids just starting grade school because they help children develop good posture when carrying heavy loads around all day long, as well as assisting them in learning how to manage their weight by redistributing weight evenly across both shoulders (instead of only one). This helps prevent injury and gives you peace of mind knowing that your little one doesn’t have too much pressure on them at once, which could cause discomfort over time if worn improperly with an unbalanced load distribution system!
5. Get Your Supplies In Order
To get your supplies in order, you need to list the supplies you will need.
You can create it on your computer or use a notebook and pen.
Make sure to include everything from pencils and paper to scissors and glue sticks.
Once you have made a list, set aside some time to go shopping with your child, take pictures of each classroom supply as well as office or cubicle items like pens, staplers, and coffee mugs so that they remember what they need when they go back in September.
You can also take photos of teachers’ desks for reference later on if needed!
Remember though: Don’t buy anything extra! Stick with the list because not only are there already so many things that kids carry around with them all day (backpacks), but this is also an opportunity for teaching kids about money management early on in life without them even realizing it!

If You Want To Try To Be More Organized, Start Now
Don’t wait until the last minute to get everything ready.
If you wait until then, it will be even more demanding and more stressful for you because there won’t be enough time left before school starts.
You should also consider what supplies your child needs for each subject and what other items would make them feel more comfortable in their new classroom (if they’re going into a new classroom).
