ABOUT JULIENNE
I’m Julienne. I’m a mom to 18-month old, Luke. I like to spend time with my family. (I have loads of nieces & nephews.) And my son is a total outside boy! He loves taking walks, looking at bugs and digging in the dirt. I’m also a proud small business owner. My biz allows me to stay home with my son, and work with clients I adore. It’s the best of both worlds for me. I offer digital marketing services, and in 2017 have served clients in 17 US States and 3 countries. What an interesting thing technology is!

MOTHERHOOD UNFILTERED
Q. How did becoming a mother change you?
Julienne I feel more comfortable with who I am, and with the decisions I make. I’m super clear that my priority is my boy, so I have less wavering when I need to make tough choices. I just need to think about what would be best for him.
Q. Are you a conventional or unconventional mother?
Julienne Oh, I don’t know! Probably a mix of both.
Q. What is the hardest part of being a Mother based on your experience?
Julienne For me, I was not prepared for “mommy brain.” Before baby, I was super sharp – remembered everything vividly. Recalling things can feel foggier now, and I’m working on getting back to feeling like myself!
Q. Is Motherhood different than you had imagined? Is your reality better than what you imagined?
Julienne Some things are better, some not as great. Overall, I’d say it’s better than I thought it would be. I love just having a little buddy around. It’s great to be able to laugh with someone and give (and get!) loads of hugs. I’m never lonely, that’s for sure!
Q. Who is your ‘mom’ role model?
Julienne I appreciate any moms I see around town who look like they’re keeping their cool while the kids are swarming around them and I’m working on this. These days, it’s been harder because if I’m not with my son, I’m working.
Q. What do you do for ‘me time’? Or share something you do to recharge.
Julienne I’ve been trying to block out time on the calendar for simple stuff that will recharge me. Like, facials. Even though it’s the mini, “lunch time” ones – they still count!
Q. Share a family tradition you do with your kids.
Julienne The National Dog Show! (No, I’m serious.) You know that Dog Show that’s on after the Parade? It’s just the best. I love Thanksgiving, in general. It’s the start of the season and such a happy day. My family spends the day at my mom’s house, and then we go to my grandma’s house in the afternoon. Even though my mom lives 15 minutes away, we always sleep over, watch the parade and help cook. And then I watch the Dog Show!
Q. What is the biggest mistake you’ve made as a mother?
Julienne I suppose just impatience, I guess. I tend to get pretty frustrated when things don’t work out. And, of course, no one can mess with plans like toddlers! That little face is just too cute to stay frustrated, though, you know?
Q. What’s the one thing you wish you could do differently as a mother?
Julienne I’m a fairly anxious person by nature, and motherhood has certainly not calmed that. I try not to let that stop his adventures too much, but I wish I was a little braver. I’m working on it.
Q. As a mother, what do you feel you miss out on the most?
Julienne Sleep!
Q. What is one thing you wish to teach your children?
Julienne I want to raise a good, kind man. I want him to be happy and honest. Empathetic and hardworking. (That’s more than one thing, I guess!)
Q. What is your biggest fear as a mother?
Julienne Probably like a lot of moms, my biggest fear is that I mess up. That he doesn’t turn out to be all that I hope for him
Q. What word would your kid (s) use to describe you? and why?
Julienne I hope he would say I was silly. His favorite song right now is about walking like a penguin. We sing and “waddle, waddle, waddle” all around the house. I don’t ever want to forget how to have fun.
Q. What is one piece of advice you would give a new or expectant mother?
Julienne Put the laundry down and just have a little fun for a minute or two!
Q. What do you wish your kid (s) knew about you?
Julienne That he’s my number one, above all else.
